[DM-MUG] Entourage & Growl

Growl is a very nice little utility which can actually be set up to
process just about any system notification in OS X. For instance, you
can install a utility that will allow it to alert you when new Mail or
any number of IM clients (e.g., iChat, Conversation, Colloquy) receive
new messages. Firefox will use Growl to alert to updates. And there
are many more. It really is an wonderful utility application for
system alerts.
Entourage, unfortunately, is a rather mediocre email client. While
its support for standard email servers and accounts is relatively
solid, its support for Exchange is only partial and tends to be flaky,
largely because even now, several years after Entourage first
supported Exchange, that support is still rather improvised (e.g., it
uses WebDAV instead of Exchange's standard MAPI connection). In fact,
there is no complete, native Exchange client on the Mac side as yet.
Also, because Entourage does not utilize the standard MAPI connection,
you have to alter the settings on your Exchange server to allow for
WeDAV connections. In addition to all this, Entourage has a handful
of other nuisances, including the fact that it stores mail messages as
both individual files and in its proprietary database;
All of that said, if you are determined to utilize Entourage with your
Exchange server, you might check out the link below. It will tell you
how to make the necessary modifications to your Exchange configuration
as well as how to setup your accounts in Entourage itself.
