A CD (and presumably DVD) provides an interesting show when zapped in 
the microwave for a second or two. The EMR induces a current in the 
disc's metallic layer, destroying it while creating a visual effect 
similar to the Enterprise being stuck by a photon torpedo. Not that 
anyone who reads this should be foolish enough to try it. Really. Don't.
