[DM-MUG] NICECAST...

I've been using NiceCast for about 4 years at least once a week.
I'm guessing you're using the "internal server" that's the default on
NiceCast.
I haven't used that for probably 3.8 years, since I usually have an
audience bigger than 1-2 listeners.
The biggest trick in that case is making sure that you're using the
right "share" address when sending out the URL.
On the "share" tab there are 2 URLs one for internal use and another
for external use. Your machine will have a local IP that your other
local machines can see, but that won't be visible to the outside
(it'll probably be 10.0.0.<1-254> or 192.168.0.<1-254>) you can't use
that for an outside listener as those are private IPs.
The URL under "internet" should give you the right IP to use the
stream from outside.

I usually use rented streams that I simply feed from my machine and
consumers can listen to directly.
If you're just trying to listen to your music collection or something
yourself, then the built in is OK, but unless you have pretty fat
"pipes" you won't be able to serve many listeners directly.
Hope that helps. I've loved working w/ NiceCast and am very glad I
don't have to put up with what I've seen on the PC side. If you work
with multiple stream providers, it is really best in class level
software for my money. I know it's paid for itself for me.
