[DM-MUG] OT: Qwest and Mediacom Internet Service Advice

I'll add my recent experiences to the collective.

After years with Mediacom, I switched to the Qwest DSL/DirecTV bundle
in the fall of '07. The DSL, while not super speedy due to the
limitation imposed by my location (Waukee) was always there. I can't
recall an instance when it ever failed me. DirecTV's DVR rocks, but
the rain fade was bothersome at times. My monthly bill for all
services was around $180.

A couple weeks ago, a smooth talking Mediacom rep came to the door
and convinced me to sign up - Net/CATV/Phone for $100/mo. Since I
made the switch last Tuesday, it's been very disappointing. According
to speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and speedtest.net, my DL speed is about
3Mbps, which is only a hair better than my DSL speed. The HD DVR they
brought turned out not to work, and the entire connection (all
services) has been down a couple times. I'm tempted to return to
DirecTV. We'll see how it goes when during tomorrow's service call to
replace the DVR.

Cheers,
Chris
