[DM-MUG] Q ref firewall communication port 3689: Apple TV not syncing with iTunes

I have checked the Apple site and discussions and talked just now to
an Expert but can't find an answer and thought I would ask here in
case someone has had the same issue.

I have an Apple TV which was running 2.0 and upgraded to 3+ -
iTunes9.0.2, Snow Leopard, now. Before I had ATV 2 and iTunes9+ and
10.5.8...no problems at all using the ATV.

Upgraded ATV to 3+ and computer to SnowLeopard...although the ATV
shows up in the Devices area of the iTunes, it can't connect to the
library.

Network is fine. ATV can see theatrical trailers and play music from
internet. I did a wipe of the ATV and reinstalled factory defaults
and set it up again, upgraded the software to 3 and tried again. It
is seen in the iTunes but when I hit Sync it says the ATV is not
responding "check that any firewall software running on this comptuer
has been set to allow communication on port 3689."

I did not have the software firewall running. I did have
VirusBarrier X5 running [no problems using it and having ATV working
before this] but did turn it off for a bit while I am troubleshooting.

I have aNetgear GS108 switch [not router, no ports to set up] and
just talked to the cable company which says its modem/router doesn't
have such selections. It's a 'bare' broadband modem.

So, there's no place to set port 3689 that I can find. None of the
pieces of hardware has any problelm, network is fine. Internet is
fine.

But ATV won't sync with iTunes.
