I'm a big fan of Acrobat Pro.
OCR then Optimize. In my experience Optimizing then OCR doesn't always work as far as the OCR part goes... doing the OCR first ensures all text gets converted so you can copy/paste/editable text. If you optimize first, the OCR may miss more.
I'd set it up in Adobe batch processing. It's probably going to allow you to control more than Automator.

maybe a simple Q = if I'm trying to set up a Batch Processing
Sequence in AAP9, which comes first the chicken or the egg: do I
Optimize the PDF file lst and then OCR the scanned PDF or do I do it
vice versa???
Can I do more with Automator or should I set up the batch processing
all or almost all in AdobeAcrobat?
