[DM-MUG] iBook G4 hard drive replacement options

All iBooks use IDE / ATA drives. SATA need not apply. Reiterating the drive
size limit: 300, 333, 433, 500 and 600 MHz models would not see a drive
partition larger than 127GB. A larger drive can be put in, but 127 is as
large a piece the machine will see. No point putting in a 250 or 500GB drive
if only 127GB will be seen. I think the smallest available "new" drive is
160GB.
This is an intense upgrade/repair, as was said earlier, and not for the
queasy. Do not rush this, and don't hesitate to ask for help when (not if)
you need it.

We did these all the time when I was at Haddock, and I can now get in and
out of an (white, square) iBook HD repair in about 1.5 - 2 hours. A
(colored, clamshell) iBook HD repair takes the better part of an evening
(you must remove the display). It takes uninterrupted focus, the proper
tools, good organization, and space to spread out. Send the kids to the
neighbors and the cats to the basement.

Peace,
CW
