My rule for Apple-related rumors:
When Steve announces a product, it's legit. Until then, it's only a
rumor.
iPhone (in some form) was rumored for almost 5 years before Apple
actually announced it. Video enabled iPods were rumored for at least a
couple years before they actually arrived. Other products were/have
been rumored for years to no fruition. And Apple has sometimes
announced products that no rumor ever anticipated (Intel Macs for
example).
The purported prototype bezel for the latest iPhone (kicked around
rumor sites for months earlier this year) turned out instead to be the
bezel for a new device by Creative. When the manufacturer for iMac G4
cases announced that Apple had discontinued orders, the web was abuzz
with rumors Apple would discontinue the iMac. Instead, a totally
redesigned iMac G5 was introduced a couple months later.
Never count on, make investment decisions on, or budget tech purchases
based on Apple product rumors.
Peace,
CW
