Thanks for the info.

I checked on-line for my model TV, a Samsung, and it says that the  
native
resolution is 1680 x 1050, but I don't have that option on my computer
display choices.

I tried 1600x 900, the highest choice, but that is distorted.
1360 x 768 is clear but small.
1280 x 720 causes text to be clear and readable but with some color
distortion.

So if I can't get the exact resolution, then is it just a matter of
preference?

Look into the free utility SwitchResX located below. It will allow you  
to set the resolution to the native res of your monitor.
