Dave, I shouldn't have to buy software to make a machine work = the 
driver is free and downloadable.  The issue is whether that's all I 
need or do I have to ALSO have some other software to use with 
whatever comes into and out of the scanner = the ScanSnap comes with 
Adobe Acrobat and works great with that...and other software I 
have....
