[DM-MUG] Problem with System Preferences (10.4.11)

Another solution is the following which I have seen several times:

	In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the  
following:

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist
com.apple.nat.plist

You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting"
