Geoff,
I assume if you are using hotmail, you are not actually using an application other than your web browser. This means that all of your data is located on Microsoft's servers at all times, and you are just using a web browser to view it. In that instance, there is no data on your computer at all, and it is Microsoft's responsibility to back it up and keep it safe.

I use MSN Hotmail - is that a same problem as you say about entourage?
