If you get an iPhone you do have 14 days to return it so that may 
allow you to see if it works given your hearing issue.  I have an 
iPhone [origiinal with updated software = 3G isn't out til late this 
year here] and love it =  esp. now that there are all those 
applications you can put on it [I've so far confined myself to the 
free ones].  It's sort of a small computer = carries my addressbook, 
iCal, syncs with my computer and with MobileMe and the camera, while 
not perfect will do in a pinch.  I can't comment on the Curve.  There 
are some issues with ATT reception/signal but it's not constant and 
I'm working thru them.
