[DM-MUG] The Apple Store

I hate it when people do that (imply stuff like replacing a URP would
void warranty).

If it's so bad why does Apple have this linked from the main Macbook
support page:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1651

I'm certainly not trying to say you're wrong about the way your
experience went - I was fairly dissatisfied with the way things went
when dealing w/ my 40gb iPod (4G) - it was originally engraved, as was
the 2nd one, then by the third time I just wanted to avoid the huge
turn around for the replacement, so had them just trade it out for a
plain one.

The stores are not well suited for geeks like us, since they are made
for hand holding mom & pop. I'll admit lately I've had little to do w/
them, mostly running in and grabbing the odd software upgrade or
accessory. My G5 (dual 2.5) is still in pretty good shape, though it's
getting near the end of it's Applecare. I'll probably keep it going as
long as I can stand to be non-intel.

They've always been pretty limited to the styles on hand though, and
have pretty much always deferred any kind of real BTO stuff to Apple
Online (in my experience), and Apple has never been a bastion of
choice in hardware options. I'd love a smaller tower w/ more choices
for vid cards, etc. I really don't need any card slots (1 or 2 besides
the vid).
