This may be easier:

-COPY the iTunes folder to an external hard drive. Drag and drop to  
the external drive will do this.

-Launch iTunes while holding down the OPTION key. When asked, click  
'Choose Library', and navigate to the iTunes folder on the external  
drive.

-Delete the old iTunes folder on your internal drive.
