[DM-MUG] can't send mail from Mail.app

I'm on Leopard install attempt #3. Something always messes up that I can't fix.

My latest attempt was to erase and install, and then import mail boxes to get my mail client back to where it was. Since doing that, I can't send mail. I keep getting the error:

"Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1035.)"

Connection doctor says I'm setup great. I can receive mail no problem. I've tried deleting the smtp settings and specifying them again, but same error. I've deleted prefs, same error. I'm tempted to delete the ~/library/mail folder and import again. Or move all my saved mail to .Mac and then blitz the Mail folder.

Anybody ever see that error? I can find no mention of it in Apple support forums, MacNN forums, Google, etc.

Sometimes I get tempted to put Tiger back on.
