Tips & Tricks: Ray Bowler shared with us and showed us the idea of
Hot Corners to activate the screensaver and then setting your
security to require authentication to get in. All the settings are
in the System Preferences area.
Ray presented on Backing Up. A copy of his presentation in PDF is at
the website for you to download.
The basic question is how much can you afford to lose? It's not a
question of if your harddrive will fail, it's a question of when.
You need to set up a backup regime that will provide you some
security from loss of data. It's best to do a full back up and then
do incremental backups. Also, to make clones which will allow you to
boot from them in an emergency ['bootable clones']
There is all sorts of media you can back up to: floppies, CDs, DVDs,
harddisks, online storage
Ray went through four programs that seem to be very good at backing
up and making Bootable Clones: When you search for them or others
in Versiontracker.com, you'll need to search by both the word
'backup' but also 'clone'
Carbon Copy Cloner by Bombich Software
Disk Utility [Apple's DU in the Utilities folder = see Restore tab]
SuperDuper
Intego Personal Backup
We held the raffle for the iPod Manual and Don P. won it.
We adjourned and then visited until a little before 9pm.
