Because of #1, you can skip #2. I used to do that and found it gave
me no benefit.

I'd keep the iTunes library on #3. Since you have two trays, I'd use
a 500GB tray to be a daily backup for for Seagate (current photos and
iTunes), and a second tray for the vault archiving (photo archive only).

I do "vault moving" type things with iVew catalogs, but I only
archive full years of work. 2006, 2007 etc. That way I know which
catalog to dive into, because memory easily recalls, "oh, that was
last year or two years ago" for me. I keep the current year's
archive on my internal G5 drive (the boot one), and move the year's
worth of photos to Archive (external) on January 1st (+- a few days)
every year.

And yeah, consolidate those scattered photos onto the Seagate to
later move into archival vaults. Another reason for my 'annual
archive' approach is because at one point I did get into
consolidating, scanning, etc., and I found it easier to know where to
put them just by what year they were taken.

That sounds good = my problem is that I have almost too many choices,
but that is because I have varying needs

1. My G5 is SmartCloned each night to an external FW drive
2. I use Backup to do the ADdressBook and iCal thing etc.
3. I have Aperture on my 2nd G5 drive [Seagate 500] and 'save' the
vaults to a WiebeTech two tray [250G each] Silver SATA so I can when
the lst tray is full, move it out to archival storage and replace it
with another 250G or 500G drive/tray....
4. I have my iTunes Music Library on an external drive and it's
about 43G and I need to decide whether to clone or copy that as well,
although I have at times burned disks of the purchased items.
Reimporting my CD collection would be a royal pain.
5. I have photos also scattered around = I'm trying to discipline
myself to putting them all in Aperture Libraries and working off or
saving them but haven't been able to do that yet...

Right now I have too many options going on and would like to
streamline things and limit the number of external FW drives that I
use, but that's not something I've figured out yet.
