This was the one area of great concern to me. I was afraid the data
plans would be horrendous. As it is, the $59.95 for 450 minutes +
unlimited data plan they have is not much more expensive than the
$49.95 for 450 minutes + LIMITED data plan I have now with Cingular/
AT&T. Don't forget taxes and gov't fees though. They add about
$5-10 to the monthly fee on my bill (I have a small National Account
discount through my company that amounts to about $4.00 off my
monthly bill). Basically my bill will rise about $10 or so a month.
And the rollover minutes are wonderful. They stick around for 12
months. I have around 3000 rollover minutes built up (I don't usually
use the full 450 minutes/month) so I basically never worry about how
long I'm on the phone. And the iPhone's battery life is huge
compared to my RAZR. No worries for me about it not being a
removable battery although I assume there will be some way to replace
it in store eventually (I will have to ask.) I'd probably just get a
newer iPhone at that point, though.
Plus, since they use GSM phones which have a SIM card that identifies
the phone to their system, I can still keep and use my Motorola RAZR
just by moving the SIM Card from the slot on the top of the iPhone to
the slot in my RAZR, if I want to take a phone someplace where I'd
rather not take the iPhone for fear of damage or loss (out on a lake
or something). Nice to have a backup phone, too. That's harder to
do or impossible on providers like Verizon Wireless. NICE!
I'll definitely be buying an iPhone for sure now. My current plan
would be up in early January anyway.
