[DM-MUG] curiosity using programs while burning DVD

Hi,

I have backed up my users directory for off site storage by using 
Toast 8 to span DVDs. Tomorrow I plan to connect my wife's  iBook via 
firewire, start it in Target Disc Mode and burn her user directory to 
5 DVDs.

Out of curiosity, aside from slowing my computer down, is there any 
downside to downloading e-mail, using Safari and doing other tasks 
during either of these scenarios?

By the way, this morning I tried it over my network. It worked but 
after a couple of hours only about 30% of the first DVD had been 
written. So I aborted. It would be faster if I had a Mg of memory.
