Ray,

Just depends on what you want the printer to do.

Most schools and professionals endorse Epson. I like their wide format esp the wide format for
matte/art printing. If for straight photos and not artwork printing I still prefer Canon. Everyone
has their own opinion. Epson and Canon are rivals. Canon and Nikon are rivals. I still deduce that
if you are going from camera to printer for photos (not artwork/fine art printing) to go with
Canon. And Epson wide formats are indeed better than canon's wide format.

Here are some general advantages. I am going on the presumption you'd end up with an all in one
unit as opposed to simply a printer.

Canon advantages
doublesided printing
2 paper trays holding a combined capacity of 300 sheets
response seems faster to power on and disengage printerhead
clear ink cartridges and visual ink level indicator
Interfacing seems more user friendly
pigment black and standard black. one is for text and the other for photos.
more all in one models have negative/slide scan tray feature
some models more compact
most current models use Number 5 and Number 8 Inks... making replacement models more likely to
accept the same ink cartridges

Epson advantages
some models capable of large capacity inks
printable Cd/Dvd that maybe turn obsolete with the Lightscribe technolgy becoming more commonplace
and improved
higher end models require 5-7 ink tanks
Photo Restoration in every model. Higher price points for all in ones you can use photocolor
restoration without a computer, gives pretty impressive results

I have discovered both Epson and HP discontinue their inks... inks for models less than three
years old, and some consumers seem inconvenienced not able to find those inks locally.

I don't like HPs for anything other than a quick document. their oranges are too red and greens
are too blue. the overall quality lacks.

Maybe CW and Matt can offer their info and experience too.
