I had a C84 and *loved* it in every way but for one, eventually fatal,
flaw... it was fast, quiet, economical on ink (except for the problem).

However, if you leave it on without using it for a prolonged period of time,
like 5 days in my case, you'd get poor output until you cleaned the nozzles.
Sometimes it took a few cleanings to get them all working again.

I called Epson and they said you need to turn the printer *off* if you'll
not be using it for a while. This causes it to park the head in a way that
the nozzles won't clog and you won't need to clean them. I frequently forgot
to do this. There is a collection resevoir inside the printer where the ink
goes when you clean the nozzles and once the resevoir is full you can no
longer use the printer. I filled mine up 13mo after I bought the printer.

The point is, you probably need to clean your nozzles. I don't know if your
C88 has this same flaw as my C84 where you need to hit the power button
after you print... if you frequently need to clean your nozzles you may need
to start turning your printer off when you're done with it.

Oh, the good news of the story is, there are two identical, high powered and
high torque motors inside the printer, so when it eventually dies, they make
good parts for robotic experiments.
