Is anybody in the club in the market for a dual core G5 tower at
2x2GHz, 1.5GB ram, 2x160GB internal drives, with a 20" 16:9 Apple LCD
display Mac setup? I paid $1999 for the tower and $799 for the
monitor a year and a half ago, ram was about $100 and extra hard
drive was $120 (total cost: $3018). I'm considering getting a MacBook
pro or iMac for the portability, gaming and Windows emulation
opportunities (good ol' Intel cpus). There's another 18 months left
on the Applecare warranty and there's a complimentary iSight camera.
This computer chews through web design, print work, photo editing,
audio production and media conversion like crazy. If it wasn't for my
new grab'n'carry/gaming/Windows needs, I wouldn't let this one go
until my soul lost touch from an archeological dig in 2150. :) It's
very quiet (I sleep near it) and the fans have never had to blow hard
even when playing World of Warcraft or converting media. I've noticed
their RPM change using a utility like iStat, but the noise level
seems to stay the same. It's efficient like that. They work to their
full spectrum though. Put in the Apple hardware test CD (or boot into
Ubuntu Linux) and vroooom! I've only ever had one kernel panic with
it while unplugging a USB M-Audio MobilePre while it was in use by
audio software.
There's a bit of scuffing on the tower's right side from when the
edge of a silver metallic waste basket rubbed up against it. I nearly
cried when it happened. I've tried so hard to pamper it! The monitor
has no dead pixels and it's been wiped only with the cloth that came
with it in the box.
A couple teaser photos of it sitting in its current home:

You know I'm sure how well Macs hold up when they're adored. This one
is no different. It's been hugged often.
