You could use GraphicConverter and change pictures to JPG format (if 
they aren't already) and maybe experiment with % of compression. Also, 
see if maybe the original size of the image is just too big. Maybe you 
can resize the image in GraphicConverter to make it the right size 
instead of using HTML to take this big file and resize it. I do that 
with photos of people for a Board listing. The original photos are 
usually over 2,000 pixels wide. So I resize it down to about 300 to 400 
pixels, and that really cuts down the size of the file. You have to 
play with it to see how it looks best for you.

The same is true if you do something in OmniGraffle and export it. I 
have found it exports pretty large files. So if I do a resize to the 
dimensions I want, I can usually get it pretty small that it works.
