[DM-MUG] Hi-8 video tape to computer

My son-in-law has a video camera which uses  Hi-8 video tape. Its 
only output is to the VCR. Is there anyway to connect to the camera 
to his BW Mac running OS 10.2 and download or on the other hand an 
adapter so that the tape could be downloaded? He doesn't want to buy 
a different camera.
