Happy New Year to you all

I am not a resident of Des Moines but joined your MUG to look at an
article that Google spotted for me. I am needing some help with a
printing problem that I have and there are not many folk nearby that
I can ask about it. I hope that someone among you can give me some
insights.

I am running Tiger (10.4.3) and would like to print to my trusty old
StyleWriter (1500), which is on the (Ethernet) network thanks to an
AppleTalk Adapter (M4877). I can print to it from our Titanium
(running Jaguar) by using Classic (and Acrobat Reader 4) but have so
far failed to get it set up on Mac OS X.

I have installed GhostScript and Gimp-Print and have a PPD for the
printer (Apple-Color_StyleWriter_1500-lpstyl.ppd) I cannot even get a
good response from Terminal. Here are some things that I have tried:

[Andy:~] andy% sudo at_cho_prn StyleWriter1200AT
Zone:*???
ITEM NET-ADDR OBJECT : TYPE
   1: ff00.01.81 sw:StyleWriter1200AT

ITEM number (0 to make no selection)?1
Bus error
[Andy:~] andy% atlookup
Found 4 entries in zone *
ffc7.cd.80 Titanium:Darwin
ff00.01.81 sw:StyleWriter1200AT
ff00.80.fb Jo?s Titanium:PPCToolBox
ff00.80.04 Jo?s Titanium:Workstation
[Andy:~] andy% atstatus sw:StyleWriter1200AT
ATPsndreq: Operation timed out
status for 'sw:StyleWriter1200AT' failed
[Andy:~] andy% atprint sw:StyleWriter1200AT
Looking for sw:StyleWriter1200AT.
Trying to connect to sw:StyleWriter1200AT@*.
ATPsndreq: Operation timed out
[Andy:~] andy% appleping ff00.01.81
Pinging ff00.01.81: 64 data bytes
64 bytes from ff00.01.04: hop= 0, time= 27. ms
64 bytes from ff00.01.04: hop= 0, time= 7. ms

It seems as if AppleTalk knows about the printer and I can ApplePing
it without a problem but I cannot set it up as the default printer or
atprint to it.

I have also tried various forms of address in Printer Setup Utility
but to no avail. The errors have been various, the latest being "The
process "pap" stopped unexpectedly with status 255".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
