[DM-MUG] Moving to DSL or not, which speed is important?

Basically it comes up between speed and true presence online. While
Mediacom offers the best speed for the money, if you want to run a
server of any type, you are technicallly required to register for one
of their business plans (notice, not any higher speeds, just costs
more.) But a simple webserver doesn't ever seem to catch their eye.
DSL on the other hand allows you more flexibility in your presence on
the web. You can get a truly static IP address for running a server
(Mediacom online offers reserved IPs so they could still, and often
do, change) and DSL offers DNS administration through Qwest that
allows you to point a domain at your machine. This also allows you
to add email to your server if you want and not relay everything
through their mail servers (something that is required by the way the
reverse DNS is setup on the Mediacom network.)
In short, if you want to run a business, I would highly recommend
DSL. If you just want raw speed and maybe run a small family site
where you are not concerned with telling people your address has
changed, then stick with Mediacom.
