just a note on some things to get ya thinkin',

there are more choices. I currently use a wireless connection, caught
with a small parabolic antenna and use it for all my needs with no
further cost other then a 5-10 dollar charge for a "static IP" which
allows me to have my own web site hosted from my own computer. My
connection is through I-rule.net but there are others. they offer
various configurations as well, but it is nice to be able to not have
to upload to other computers any of the things that I would need to
put on my site. All macs come with their own web hosting abilities
now. My speeds are faster then DSL but some people get the slower
speeds which are about the same as DSL.
