HP is a great choice. Any reason why you passed over the Laserjet
1018 for $129? Also the 1020 (which is being replaced by the 1022) is
$129 after rebates. I have recommended many 12xx, 13xx and 10xx class
HP LaserJets and they just keep going. You don't even need to install
or download a driver for Mac OS X. I purchased a 1012 about 2 years
ago and I haven't replaced the original toner yet.

I cannot directly speak on the Brother as an option, but a printer
friend of mine is much more fond of HP, except for the 11xx and 13xx
class of printers, which he says are difficult to repair.
