[DM-MUG] why will restore from backup not complete? Dead

Thanks to Alan and Matt for their replies. SMART says everything is
fine. I used Disk Utility to zero free space and it stopped part way
through. Used the security zero to zero all data and when it was part
way through it ended with a failure. I had to use the regular erase
to get it to mount. I used TechTool Pro to scan the surface and part
way through it found the bad block. Apparently the system cannot tell
it to ignore this block so it is a problem.
I am assuming that a new drive is indicated.
