My other lawyer clients require that a hard drive be drilled through
several times with a large bit.
However, have you run diskwarrior on it? It could still be a
software failure (unless you hear a click, click).
I would still try and repair it, so you can do a secure erase of the
drive, then take a drill to it several times.
