[DM-MUG] I need help in finding two preferences....

1) iChat uses the custom away message as an auto reply, so you need
to set that under your name in the buddy list (where it usually says
available with a green dot). Next, in the preferences, under the
general tab, check the box next to "Reply with Away message".
2) I'm assuming you are meaning connecting to a wireless network.
You need to go to the Network System Preference, choose Airport, then
choose the Airport tab. Next check the box next to "Show Airport
status in menu bar." It should give you a pice shaped menu in the
right side of the menu bar. Clicking on it will show you available
networks that are broadcasting their name. You should see the
"Ultimate" in there. Having this menu will also make it so you can
connect using other wireless networks in coffee shops.
