It's probably more correct to say Spotlight is always updating the
index. It generally doesn't have to completely re-index. OTOH,
occasionally (more new troubleshooting steps) one needs to delete the
current index and allow a rebuild if it is not working properly.
Overall impressions seem to be positive, so I'm not trying to drag it
down.
Index speed will probably be dependent upon the amount of index-able
files (12 GB's of video files won't take long to index, whereas 3 GB's
of Word or Quark docs will), speed of HDD and CPU.
