Yeah, that's the article that got me started doing a "image from
folder" - it would've resulted in a file I'd need to have mounted in
some way to have used the migration wizard. If I'd been setting up a
minimal 5 or 10 gig image of my "perfect" install on a nice big drive
for quick setup this would be perfect, but I was trying to have my
"old" machine available to the migration assistant in stage 2 install
(after the reboot).

Great review. I'm definitely still waiting on the server until things
