[DM-MUG] formatted powerbook won't boot

Have you tried holding down the 'C' key while booting with the CD 
present?  Or before that it was (I think) the Tab key.  This forces the 
computer to boot from the CD or to skip the main boot drive and search 
for another bootable drive.   I don't recall if the 3400c has Open 
Firmware, but if so there may be other magic keys at boot that will 
help you select the boot drive.  Search Apple's support web site for 
more possibilities.
