This was my first thought too. Also, most of the new DVD burner  
drives that are being sold are new "multi" drives and aren't  
specificall. The +R discs traditionally were less compatible with  
some set-top DVD players. You may be seeing two issues are work here,  
the media and the read capability of the disc format type. Gotta love  
technology!

The Ritek (RiData) discs are my hands-down favorite for reliability  
(they're NOT an off-brand anymore), however, I've only used the -R  
and not the +R media. I've had a bad run of my former favorite  
Verbatim so no brand is immune (hey, even Macs fail—believe it). I'd  
keep picking up RiData discs, but you might try a couple other types  
to verify your current stack. It could just be a bad run.
