Repairing permissions is a piece of cake! From the Finder, just go to 
your utilities folder (Command-Shift-U) and open the disk utility 
application. On the left you'll see a list of drives and maybe disk 
images. Click once on your drive to select it, then click the repair 
permissions button. It's as easy as that.

Your mac will then scan a bunch of files and folders to make sure their 
permissions are properly set and it will list any corrections that it 
makes. Please note that not all corrections in this list cause problems 
- many are benign. Also, this process of repairing can go on quite 
happily in the background while you are doing something else.
