Using the latest and greatest Jaguar...
I've placed my iPhoto library in /Users/Shared/ so that my wife and I can both
use it ( We both have admin accounts). This works if one of us does all
importing and editing while the other only views photos, but we don't use it
that way. When importing, iPhoto grants ownership to any dir it creates to the
current user. This prevents the next user from importing if one of the dirs
from the previous import needs to be touched. It also prevents the non-
importing user from editing photos.
I'm sure there's a way around this via some of the more exotic tools and utils,
but I don't know enough Unix to get there. Instead, I manually change
permissions on the affected folders and go about my work.
I've gotten to like X in the years since it was introduced, but it's really
humbling to go from the "know-it-all" skill level to the middle of the pack
simply because I don't know Unix.
Anyhow, if somebody can explain the solution to me, I, and perhaps others on
the list, would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris
