[DM-MUG] QuickTime, mp3s, & iTunes

I subscribe to one of Streamlink's services which has now started
offering d/l of mp3s. Previously I would stream the content, recording
it with Wire Tap and then edit it in Sound Studio, importing the AIFF
files and then converting them to AAC & mp3 (I like having them in both
formats, one for the iPod and one for mp3 CD burning).
Now the idea of d/l mp3s direct to my hard drive would save a lot of
time and a couple of steps. The problem is that when I d/l these from
Netscape, they show up as QT "movies". iTunes then has to extract them
before converting them to the other formats (it's still much faster
overall but I have a need for speed!). I've gone thru the preferences
for QT and Netscape and can't find anything that will change this
apparent default. Is there anyway to d/l the mp3s, direct &
iTunes-ready? Or alternately, is there anyway to use the QT format on
my iPod as it's file is considerably smaller than even the AAC version?
And please don't tell me the solution involves using Internet Exploder.
I can barely stomach the moments I'm forced to use Windows Media
Player! :-)
Thanks mucho,
Jeff
