Best to test using an app such as MacStumbler or the free APGrapher=20
(http://www.chimoosoft.com/software.html) to test the REAL strength of=20=

your ABS (Airport Base Station) placement. I found that my AEBS=20
(Airport Extreme Base Station) works as most antennas do. The radiating=20=

pattern is up and out probably not too far off the image of the Airport=20=

signal strength icon in the menubar only with a wider spread. [Even an=20=

omni-directional antenna will have null zones.] When I turned my 2nd=20
floor AEBS upside-down I got better range in the first floor and=20
basement...no point in shooting wireless rads into the attic. I'm using=20=

it like that now. I'll eventually mount it using the wall bracket=20
pointing roughly in the direction I plan to use it most. I'm not a real=20=

proponent of the external vs. internal school of thought. Yes, the case=20=

can have some effect, but the ABS/AEBS is just acrylic and not likely=20
to alter the signal much. The placement and quality of the antenna,=20
however, IS important be it internal or external. If you want more=20
detailed info about the differences of ABS/AEBS internal antenna=20
arrangement, contact me off-list.

For simplicity, I much prefer Apple's software vs. the Web-based=20
D-Link, but that's a personal preference. You can also link multiple=20
ABS's (as repeaters).

On the notebook tip, I'm disappointed with the Wi-Fi reception of the=20
Aluminum G4. My Pismo absolutely SPANKS it. Don't expect a new ABook G4=20=

to surpass the TiBook much in range. Perhaps someone else has other=20
experiences?

Oh, I'm also interested in failed Graphite ABS's. If anyone has=20
considered tossing one, drop me a note first.
