Laptops are groovy but easy prey for theft... and dropping. Best=20
cost/value is the recently revised eMac. Education prices will make it=20=
even more attractive. You could almost buy 3 eMacs for the price of one=20=
PowerBook. With the extra cash you'll have left over, you can get the=20
AppleCare extended coverage (2 yrs) and some more software. The eMac is=20=
arguably the best priced Mac for the money right now. It's larger than=20=
a laptop but still doesn't take up a large space on a desk=97it is a=20
really good starting point. Heavy and harder to steal, it's got a=20
good-sized screen for large papers and lots of ports. You can even get=20=
one with a Superdrive. Max out the RAM when you buy it but shop around=20=
as Apple's RAM prices can be expensive. You can probably put in your=20
own RAM so don't fall for those cheap free installs that use=20
substandard memory.
