In regards to the command line...

None of the users I support know the command line. In fact, I rarely=20
use it to work with my powerbook (working with remote machines is=20
another story). To get the same benefits as OS 9, you do not need to=20
know the command line.

In regards to the log files...

When OS 9 has an extensions conflict, imagine that it would write a=20
little file when it freezes. In this file, it tells you exactly what=20
extension(s) are causing the hang. Basically this is what the log=20
files are in OS X. You can ignore them if you would like, but if/when=20=

you have someone troubleshoot your machine, they will be happy the logs=20=

are there. The logs also (with your consent) get sent to Apple, where=20=

they collect these as bugs, and squash them for all.

In regards to Norton...

Norton has been junk for at least 5 years. If you upgrade your system,=20=

you have to go out and buy a new copy of Norton. As a comparison,=20
Alsoft (makers of DiskWarrior) offers a free utility to burn an updated=20=

CD when they update their utility. This, and the much better repair=20
rate from DiskWarrior resulted in me throwing away Norton a year ago,=20
and recommending my clients do the same.
