[DM-MUG] iPod battery issue?

Does anyone here fix the iPod if it's a battery issue?  Or just send 
to Apple for the $99 repair?  My daughter's iPod (1.5-2 yrs old) has 
started skipping or not charging and I think it's the well known 
battery issue.  Thanks much.
