[DM-MUG] mail.app problems with exchange server?

I'm using mail.app 1.3.4 on os x 10.3.3 against a microsoft exchange 
server using IMAP. It stalls frequently when checking mail and has 
problems opening the body of a message. The headers show in the list of 
messages, but clicking on them won't open the message. I have software 
update running in the background now.
