Matthew,

Drop the .dv file into the Media folder inside the iMovie project, then 
open the project.  It will find "unknown" files and ask if you want to 
move them to the Clip Shelf.  Doing this will let you bring in files 
larger than 2GB.  I stumbled into this myself recently when dealing 
with some 3-D video I am working on.  If you have any iMovie/iDVD 
issues, feel free to hollar at me.  I have pretty much broken 
everything there is to be broken in iMovie and iDVD with the large 
projects I work on.
