You might also consider an interim choice, and one that might give you
a little more HD experience before buying an expensive set for the
living room.
EyeTV 500.

Looking at all the specs of all the different models can be daunting at
first, but there are ONLY two models for sale in the US (we use a
different and some say inferior HD standard than everyone else). The
EyeTV 200 is NTSC (regular old analog TV), and the EyeTV 500 does ATSC
or HD.
Now, this little gadget is an HD terrestrial tuner/PVR (don't think it
works with cable or sat). So that means you plug it into an antenna and
it shows you TV on your Mac. If you have a Cinema Display you've
already got an HD display (or near-HD if it's an early model). The
EyeTV 200 (analog) has a rebate, I don't know if the 500 does, but even
if it doesn't, the price isn't nearly as much as a whole new TV. Plus,
you get the PVR features, a remote and a well-thought out product.
I just bought the 200 and will report once I've set it up.
