First of all, congratulate her on her voluntary exit from both the Wintel world 
and employment. Both are necessary evils. ;)

For the typical consumer, an iMac would have plenty of juice. Even at the 
bottom of the product line, it's still a tremendously powerful computer. 
However, since you mention photography, she's potentially not the typical 
consumer. If she's interested in digital photography, she might benefit from 
something bigger and badder.
