[DM-MUG] OSX Scanners? -- and printers/MFP-AIOs

Well, I have now spent two days websurfing and other researching and
checking things out == my purpose has been to find a good scanner in
color and a good photo printer in color (figuring that non-photo
color printing would be pretty good, but the real test was color
photo printing.

1. apparently it is good to have 48bit color processing = that's the
best you can do non-professional (I think that's a scanning idea)
2. having scans of 2400x2400 dpi is also good, harder to get but not
impossible - alot seem to be 1600x
3. printing color at 4800dpi is very good and not impossible, and
alot print at less than that (this dpi is for photos by the way)

some MFPs-AIOs come with just copier/scanner/printer which is what i
want (i.e., I don't want or need faxing capability)

After hassles and reading info and archives here and elsewhere, HP
and Lexmark might be fine but OSX.2 compatibility may be questionable
(and if buying on line the return hassle and cost doesn't make buying
worth it, frankly). Epson and Canon clearly have OSX.2 capability.

There was some discussion at some point of Epson color printing
fading over time but perhaps the new ink has stopped that? (haven't
found review on that yet)

It's best to have separate ink cartridges for black and various
colors; 4 color process is good - 6 is optimal but probably not
required.\

Pricing seems to be in the $200-$500 range which is pretty good, all
things being considered.

There are some new Epson MFPs (5200 and 6400) which seem pretty good
and have all the good things listed above.

And if anyone else has any wisdom, please let me know!!!!
