I *Love* my Cannon LiDE 20 scanner, very light and great scans. The
software is OSx compatible so no worries there, and I have scanned
hundreds of pictures with it ( it re-calibrates after every 100 jobs)
and they all look great. I know that you can spend a few dollars more
and get the LiDE 30 which is nicer, but I haven't played with it.
On to the printer info:
I use the Cannon i850 printer with 6 cartridges in it, I bought it
because it is a great mix of everyday useful printer and great photo
printer. One complaint though, it take a *very* long time to print pdf
files. The photo prints turn out great and are relatively quick. I did
look into pricing for the separate and joined cartridges and they would
be about the same if all the colors wore out at the same time, but
since they don't the separate color wells is the way to go.
