>as a mostly basic-level user who hasn't yet made much use of all the
>great "digital hub" apps that come with X, i'm sorely disappointed
>with the speed of X (10.2.6) and ms's office for X. all elementary
>functions like opening, saving, re-sizing are excruciatingly slow -
>on both crt imac 500 g3 with a gig of memory and 12" pb g4 with
>maxed out-memory. though a neanderthal with technology generally,
>even i managed to learn my way around 8.1-9.2 enough to do
>installations and occasionally a little trouble-shooting. X remains
>utterly opaque to me even after using for a year. i hope panther
>improves on some of the os basics and comes with some training
>material suited to the non-tech user.
>for my taste, office is a bloated, fuzzy-looking mess compared to
>its '98 iteration, in spite of some improved features. i prefer
>using '98 in classic (and find it faster!) when i don't need a new
>feature.
I think you need to do some basic maintenance == repair permissions
and if you need, run Disk Utility (booting into CD of 10.2) to verify
and repair disk; run fsck -y. Are you leaving on your computer all
the time, so it does it's nightly maintenance?
